It has been confirmed that our Aunt Carolyn is currently missing. We have just returned from Kansas City, MO and followed up on the leads we got about her whereabouts. We arrived at her house and met Kansas City Police who helped us gain entry into her house there in KC. We searched the house only to find a house that had not been visited since the end of December. There were Christmas decorations everywhere and the mail had not been picked up from the garage since December 29 or 30. The neighbors there have not seen her since the end of December or early January. We followed the trail of her van to Forest City, MO where she abandoned it saying it was broken. It turns out it only needed gas. A deputy sheriff took her from Forest City to Mound City to the Super 8 Motel. She didn't want to stay there but preferred another hotel (Audrey's Motel) down the street. It was about 1am or so when she arrived in Mound City.
She stayed at Audrey's Motel but refused to leave by 3pm the next day. The owner there asked if she wanted to stay another day but she couldn't decide. He called the State Police who knocked on her door and got her to leave the premises. She then walked to the McDonald's down the street. She stayed there for several hours until the workers at McDonald's got concerned and called the State Police again. She was encouraged to leave the premises. They all said she looked disheveled and seemed confused.
We then think she may have started walking Route 59 towards Craig, MO. And maybe she found somewhere to sleep for awhile that night and then got a ride the next morning or mid-morning to the gas station in Craig, MO. She used the restroom there and wouldn't come out until they ushered her out. Some nice people there bought her some food. Then it was said she walked up and down and around Craig for awhile and may have looked in some windows. I believe the deputy sheriff who lives in Craig was called and he tried to give her a ride to Rock Port or Tarkio. She would have nothing to do with him and refused his help.
Around midday, she started walking up the big hill in Craig on Route 59 headed to Fairfax, MO. We believe the deputy contacted Pastor Rob Self who got in his truck with his wife and headed up to Carolyn to offer her a ride somewhere. Again she refused and seemed to not like the truck or the man. So Pastor Rob's wife, Pam Self, got a girlfriend to accompany her in a car to ask again if Carolyn would like a ride. Again, she refused as she huffed and puffed up the big hill. She quoted scriptures and said that the Lord would take care of her. So the two women followed her for awhile up the hill but then Carolyn seemed anxious and irritated by their behavior so they continued up the road. They returned about a half hour later and Carolyn was no where to be seen. This is where we think she disappeared. We have no other sightings of her in the towns along Route 59 and she did not check into any hotels up that way. We don't think she would have agreed to another ride from someone else either. We think she might have gotten off the road into the trees to have a rest and may never have recovered. We shared this information with the Holt County Sheriff and he will look into doing a search and recovery operation in the area where she was last seen. That's all we have for now.
She was last seen wearing a black skirt and maroon top with an overcoat that was tan/grey. She had dark shoes and had a purse and a bible. That was all.
We live in California and were unaware of the situation until the neighbor across the street finally found our phone number and explained what was going on. Carolyn has had a history of mental illness and she is hypoglycemic (related to diabetes). We are looking for any information you might have about her or her latest whereabouts.
